Bandits Strike Border Community, Leave Five Dead

Suspected armed bandits launched a deadly assault on Alkalije village in Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing five residents including a pregnant woman. The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, November 10, 2025, when the gunmen invaded the community and opened fire on villagers.

Community Under Siege

According to local sources who spoke anonymously for security reasons, the bandits attacked without warning, shooting indiscriminately at residents. The gunmen killed their victims on the spot, while two other individuals sustained serious gunshot injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

Alkalije, a border community under Kilgori District, occupies a vulnerable position near Silame Local Government Area and shares boundaries with parts of Kebbi State. This geographical location has made it particularly susceptible to frequent incursions by the notorious Lakurawa bandit groups operating across state lines.

Repeated Attacks and Extortion

A community leader, whose identity remains protected for safety reasons, expressed deep frustration over the persistent violence plaguing the area. "These gunmen have been crossing from Kebbi State and Silame to attack our villages," he revealed. "They kill, kidnap, and even impose levies on communities. If we fail to pay within the time they give, they come back to destroy and kill."

The community representative highlighted the absence of adequate security presence as a major factor enabling these repeated attacks. He made a passionate appeal to both state and federal governments, urging them to establish a permanent security outpost in the area to protect vulnerable border communities from further violence.

The latest attack underscores the ongoing security challenges facing rural communities in northwestern Nigeria, where cross-border bandit activities continue to threaten lives and livelihoods despite government efforts to contain the violence.
