Security Forces Arrest 3, Intercept Arms Cache in Kogi

Security forces in Kogi State have intercepted a significant cache of arms and ammunition intended for criminal networks operating in the state, according to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo. The operation, which involved close collaboration among local security operatives under the Kogi State security architecture, led to the arrest of three suspects in Sokoto State after more than two weeks of covert surveillance.

Intelligence-Led Operation Thwarts Arms Movement

Fanwo disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, June 22, 2026, that security operatives acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of arms and ammunition intended for criminal elements. The intelligence specifically identified a Golf 2 vehicle being used for the illicit movement of the weapons. Security agencies swiftly coordinated efforts across state boundaries and, in collaboration with the Sokoto State Government and security agencies in that state, tracked the movement of the suspects while maintaining close surveillance on their activities.

The operation culminated in the arrest of three suspects in Sokoto State after they had been placed under covert surveillance for more than two weeks. Preliminary investigations yielded valuable intelligence, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the arms trafficking syndicate, Fanwo added.

Collaborative Security Efforts Praised

Fanwo credited the successful operation to the close collaboration among local security operatives under the Kogi State security architecture. He emphasized that the interception of the arms cache was a direct result of intelligence sharing and coordinated action across state boundaries. The commissioner reiterated the commitment of the Kogi State Government to ensuring the safety and security of its residents by dismantling criminal networks and disrupting their supply chains.

The arrest of the three suspects marks a significant step in curbing arms trafficking in the region. Authorities are continuing their investigations to identify and apprehend additional members of the syndicate. The operation underscores the effectiveness of inter-state security cooperation in combating organized crime.
