The Senate Committee on Army has expressed profound grief over the demise of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, the former Director of Defence Information, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Nigeria's security landscape.
Statement of Condolence
In a statement released on Saturday, the Committee, through its Chairman, Abdulaziz Musa Yar'Adua, confirmed that the late senior officer was kidnapped along with his wife on 30 May 2026 on the Katsina–Matazu road before news of his death emerged. The Committee highlighted that Major General Abubakar served the nation with excellence throughout his military career and remained a respected voice in defence and security matters after retirement.

The Committee described him as a disciplined officer whose contributions to national security communication and military service left an indelible mark. It noted that his dedication and professionalism were exemplary.
Condolences and Prayers
The lawmakers extended heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues in the Nigerian Army, and the people of Batsari Local Government Area in Katsina State. They prayed for the repose of his soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannah Firdaus, and wished his family strength during this difficult time.
