Three young men were killed and a teenage girl injured in a shooting attack by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias at a relaxation spot in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to reports of sporadic gunfire at about 7:58 p.m. on July 4, 2026, around the Rantiya community. On arrival at the scene, the troops discovered the bodies of three male victims who had been shot dead, while a girl sustained gunshot wounds during the attack.
Victims evacuated, injured treated
The corpses were evacuated to the General Hospital in Barkin Ladi, while the injured victim was rushed to Damlak Clinic for urgent medical attention. Security sources confirmed that troops have launched efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing assailants responsible for the attack.
Investigation underway
Security agencies said investigations into the incident are ongoing as efforts continue to restore calm and prevent further violence in the area. The attack has heightened tensions in the community, which has experienced periodic clashes in recent years.
