According to sources reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attack took place on the evening of January 26, 2026, at approximately 7:45 p.m. The vehicle was transporting passengers from Gusau market to Kasheta Kura village when the bandits ambushed it. The assailants opened fire on the moving vehicle, causing fatal injuries to the infant and a gunshot wound to a woman's leg. An unspecified number of passengers were forcibly taken to an unknown location by the attackers.

Following the incident, security forces responded promptly by evacuating the deceased child's body and the injured woman to the General Hospital in Birnin Magaji. The hospital is conducting an autopsy on the infant and providing medical treatment for the wounded victim.
