The Enugu State Government has issued a strong rebuttal to a circulating online report which falsely claimed that a border community has been transferred to a neighboring state.
Government Dismisses Baseless Claims
In an official statement released on Friday, December 19, 2025, the state authorities categorically denied the viral story. The report had alleged that the National Boundary Commission (NBC) resolved a long-standing interstate boundary issue by ceding Ette community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area to Kogi State.
Dr. Solomon Ejim, the Secretary of the Enugu State Boundary Committee, signed the clarifying statement. He revealed that the state government immediately contacted the Director-General of the NBC upon seeing the report. The DG, according to Dr. Ejim, vehemently debunked and disowned the story, confirming it did not originate from the Commission.
No Official Decision from NBC
The government emphasized that the NBC has not yet published any official report or final decision regarding the protracted boundary dispute between Enugu and Kogi States. Therefore, the claim of an administrative transfer is entirely false and misleading.
The statement directly addressed the residents, urging them to ignore what it termed the "clear handiwork of mischief makers." The people of Igbo-Eze North LGA and Enugu State at large were advised to remain calm, avoid anxiety, and continue with their normal daily activities, as no such resolution has been reached.
Governor Mbah's Assurance on State Security
In a related development, the state's commitment to stability and security was recently highlighted by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. Speaking in late November at the Southeast Business and Investment Summit 2.0 in Enugu, the Governor outlined significant investments in security.
Represented by his Deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai, Governor Mbah acknowledged the nationwide insecurity challenges but assured that his administration is taking robust action. "In Enugu, we have made huge investments in security to secure businesses, lives and others," he stated.
The Governor pointed to a drastic and rapid drop in security incidents within the state, attributing this progress to heavy investment in technology and intelligence gathering. While not disclosing specific operational details publicly, he assured citizens that the government works tirelessly to ensure their protection.
