In a significant move to fortify security along the Nigeria-Benin border, a high-level delegation from Nigeria's Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Army conducted a strategic working visit to their counterparts in Benin Republic.
Strengthening Cross-Border Security Collaboration
The visit took place on Wednesday, 12th November 2025 at the Tsamiya/Sebgana border area. The Nigerian delegation was led by Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, fdc, the Customs Area Controller of Kebbi Command, alongside Major Shola Elijah Moses, Commanding Officer of the 1 Battalion, Nigerian Army.
Upon arrival, the officials received a warm welcome from officers of the Beninese Customs, personnel from the Kebbi Command, and other key stakeholders operating in the border region.
Emphasis on Synergy and Collective Responsibility
During the engagement, Comptroller Ibrahim underscored the critical importance of synergy and collaboration between the security agencies of both neighboring countries. He emphasized that effective border security requires mutual trust and coordinated efforts.
"Security is a collective responsibility," Comptroller Ibrahim stated, highlighting that his visit aimed specifically at strengthening cooperation and promoting intelligence sharing for improved border management along the Maje border corridor.
Mutual Commitment to Peace and Security
In response, Comptroller Arouna Dramane of the Wara Border Customs in Benin Republic commended the initiative, describing it as a welcome development that would enhance regional security.
The Beninese Customs leader conducted the visiting delegation on a facility tour for familiarization purposes and assured continued collaboration between the two nations' border security apparatus.
The visit concluded with an exchange of goodwill messages and a firm reaffirmation of commitment from both parties to work together in ensuring lasting peace and security along the Nigeria-Benin border region.
