The unrest intensified following a stabbing incident allegedly involving Ethiopian shop owners. At least two individuals were hospitalized due to injuries sustained during the chaos, while numerous vehicles were destroyed in the turmoil. Political Backing for Traditional Leaders
Meanwhile, Athol Trollip, the Eastern Cape chair of ActionSA, stated that the party fully supports recognized traditional leaders in rejecting the installation of a Nigerian Igbo king in East London. He described the coronation as illegal and contrary to South Africa's traditional leadership framework. Earlier in the day, protesters had marched through parts of the province, urging the government to take swift action and warning that failure to respond could lead to further violence.
