Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Calls for Peace, Unity in Abia North Communities
Kalu Urges Peaceful Resolution of Abia North Disputes

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, has issued a strong appeal for love, peace, and unity across the communities in his constituency. He warned that internal disputes must be resolved without violence to avoid loss of lives and destruction of property.

Address to Community Think-Tank

The former Governor of Abia State made this call over the weekend in his hometown of Igbere. He was speaking to a delegation of Abia North think-tank leaders who paid him a courtesy visit. The group was led by elder statesman Nnanna Ukaegbu and included notable figures such as Professor Eni Kalu, ESV Olekanma, and Bishop Silas Eke.

Kalu expressed deep concern over persistent internal disagreements plaguing some communities. He stressed that such conflicts should be settled amicably and internally, without external interference. The senator argued that violence and destruction only serve to set communities back, undermining the collective progress of the entire zone.

Peace as a Catalyst for Development

In his address, Senator Kalu directly linked peace and security to economic growth. He explained that a stable environment is critical for attracting the investments needed to accelerate development in Abia North. “When there is security, peace, and harmony, it gives investors confidence to invest and develop our place. We must live peacefully as brothers,” he stated.

He emphasized that love is the strongest bond that can hold communities together. Kalu urged residents to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ by practicing forgiveness, tolerance, and mutual respect. He cautioned that hatred and division are direct obstacles to progress and development.

Warning to Political Actors

The senator also turned his attention to the political climate in Abia State. He advised politicians to exercise restraint and avoid making inflammatory statements that could threaten the peace, especially with future political activities on the horizon. Kalu cautioned against actions that could overheat the polity.

Describing himself as a committed democrat, Kalu said he is fully aware of the political developments within the state. He acknowledged reports that some clerics and community leaders had suggested he should run unopposed in the 2027 elections. The senator thanked them for their confidence in his leadership but did not explicitly confirm or deny his political ambitions for that period.

The event underscored a central message: sustainable development in Abia North is inextricably linked to the peace and unity of its people. Kalu's charge serves as a reminder that resolving community disputes peacefully is not just a social imperative but an economic one.
