Suspected militia members launched an attack on a community in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, resulting in the death of one person and the destruction of several houses before fleeing the scene.

Security Response to Distress Call

According to reports, troops operating in Sector 1, alongside personnel of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, responded to a distress call at approximately 8:30 a.m. on June 4 regarding an assault on residents of Mbasa community in Utange Council Ward of the local government area.

The security team quickly mobilized to the affected area but discovered upon arrival that the attackers had already fled.

Casualties and Damage Assessment

A preliminary assessment of the incident revealed that one resident was killed during the attack, while several houses were set ablaze by the assailants.

Security personnel also recovered two empty cartridges of 7.62mm special ammunition at the scene, indicating that firearms were used during the attack.

The body of the deceased was subsequently evacuated by family members for burial in accordance with local customs.

Ongoing Investigation and Security Measures

Military authorities stated that efforts are ongoing to track down those responsible for the attack, while security presence has been reinforced in the area to prevent further violence and reassure residents.
