Two Family Members Brutally Killed in Plateau Community

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias have killed two members of the same family in a violent attack that occurred at Rachi community in Bachi District, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The tragic incident took place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at approximately 8:00pm, sending shockwaves through the peaceful community. The victims, identified as Dalyop Dangyang, a youth leader, and Emmanuel Bature, were cousins from the Berom ethnic group.

Local Government Condemns Attack

The Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Council, Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa, expressed profound distress over what he described as "yet another heart-wrenching attack" that claimed the lives of two promising young men.

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Damba Dang, the chairman emphasized that his administration would not be deterred by the renewed wave of violence across the locality.

Representing the chairman during a condolence visit to the community on Friday, the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Gwong Gywa, decried the persistent and unprovoked killings that continue to claim innocent lives in Riyom.

"Our mission remains clear, to secure our people and protect every community by all lawful means. We will not be cowed by these inhumane acts," Hon. Gywa stated firmly.

Community Leaders Call for Unity and Vigilance

The deputy chairman, who was accompanied by Rt. Hon. Timothy Dantong, former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and liaison officer to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, expressed sadness that despite the peaceful nature of Bachi District residents, Fulani militia continue to bring violence and bloodshed to the area.

He particularly lamented the deliberate destruction of farmlands and loss of innocent lives, noting that the natives have maintained peace despite numerous provocations.

In his remarks, the Councilor representing Sharubutu Ward, Hon. Luka Samuel, appreciated the council for their prompt visit and condolence message. He reiterated the need for constant vigilance while praising the courage and resilience of youths defending their communities.

The delegation, which also included the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Mafeng Dahoss, the council secretary, Hon. Chief Abraham Tonjing, some councilors, and other political appointees, unanimously condemned the renewed killings and reaffirmed their collective resolve to defend the land and ensure justice for the victims.

The bereaved family will lay Dalyop Dangyang and Emmanuel Bature to rest at their family compound in Rachi on Saturday, November 8, 2025, as the community mourns the tragic loss of two of its promising members.
