Plateau Diaspora Demands Action Against Killers in North Central Nigeria
US-Based Plateau Group Urges Crackdown on Killers

The Plateau State Association in the United States has issued a strong appeal to the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify the crackdown on armed groups responsible for repeated attacks in Plateau, Benue and other North Central states.

Persistent Violence Demands Stronger Response

In a statement released on Thursday, the National President of PSA-USA, Dr Barth Shepkong, expressed deep concern about the continuing violence affecting communities in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, Kanam and surrounding areas. He emphasized that the deteriorating security situation requires enhanced political determination, better coordinated security operations and visible government action to restore public trust.

The statement, titled "Addressing Violence and Protecting Vulnerable Communities in Plateau State and the Middle Belt", highlighted how the ongoing attacks have resulted in massive displacement, destruction of homes and farmlands, and the complete erosion of livelihoods across affected communities.

Government Must Demonstrate Resolve

Shepkong stressed that beyond the emotional impact of these attacks, Nigerians primarily expect clear evidence of government commitment to identify perpetrators, prevent further violence and ensure accountability regardless of the networks or sponsors involved.

"We urge the authorities to intensify efforts, act decisively, and ensure that these criminal elements are arrested and prosecuted," he stated. "Communities want to see tangible steps showing that government is firmly on their side."

The diaspora leader warned that delayed responses, official silence or inconsistent interventions could embolden violent actors, undermine trust in state institutions and leave vulnerable populations exposed to repeated assaults.

Long-Term Stability Requires Justice

According to Shepkong, a credible, intelligence-driven and well-coordinated security response supported by transparent investigations remains essential for reassuring affected residents and restoring lasting stability.

"Any peace that is not backed by justice and firm security action will not last," Shepkong added. "People need to see that the state is capable of protecting them and committed to doing so."

PSA-USA called on the Federal Government to prioritize several key actions:

  • Deployment of adequately equipped security personnel
  • Strengthening of intelligence gathering capabilities
  • Swift prosecution of attackers and their financiers
  • Provision of urgent humanitarian aid to displaced families
  • Rebuilding of destroyed communities
  • Adoption of community-based protection systems

The association revealed that through its R64 Diaspora Campaign Fund, it continues to assist internally displaced persons in Plateau State and support rehabilitation efforts across all 17 Local Government Areas and 64 wards.

"PSA-USA remains committed to peace, justice and the rebuilding of affected communities," Shepkong affirmed. "Our call is simple: let the government act decisively, bring perpetrators to justice and ensure that our people can return to their ancestral homes in safety."
