In a surprising twist of events that highlights both economic hardship and relationship betrayal, a 24-year-old convict in Adamawa state has revealed how his romantic gestures led to imprisonment and disappointment.
The Noodle Theft That Led to Prison
Usama Abdullahi, a former car wash employee from Shelleng Local Government Area, made headlines after confessing to stealing packs of Indomie noodles specifically for his three girlfriends. The young man, who worked at a car wash in Shelleng LGA, committed the theft hoping to impress his romantic partners.
After committing the offense, Abdullahi fled to Shani town in an attempt to evade authorities. However, his freedom was short-lived as law enforcement eventually tracked him down and arrested him. The Adamawa state judiciary subsequently sentenced him to two years imprisonment at the Shelleng Satellite Custodial Facility for the theft.
Prison Realization and Heartbreak
While serving his sentence, Abdullahi experienced a painful awakening. Despite having distributed the stolen noodles among his three girlfriends, none of them bothered to visit him in detention. This realization struck him deeply during his time at the facility.
The convict openly expressed his disappointment to authorities, stating: "I stole Indomie and distributed it to my three girlfriends. Since I arrived at the facility, none of them paid me a visit. I promise to end the relationship with them all once I gain my freedom."
Sentence Review and Second Chance
Abdullahi's case took a positive turn when the Adamawa jail delivery committee visited the Shelleng Satellite Custodial Facility on Wednesday, November 19. The committee, chaired by the state's Chief Judge Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, was conducting routine decongestion exercises at correctional facilities across the northeast state.
During their evaluation, the committee reviewed Abdullahi's two-year sentence and decided to show mercy. Justice Abdulrahman converted his remaining prison term to community service at a public facility, giving the young man an opportunity to rebuild his life while contributing positively to society.
The case has sparked discussions about youth relationships, economic pressures, and the justice system's role in rehabilitation. Meanwhile, the Adamawa state police command continues to emphasize its commitment to combating crime, recently announcing significant achievements in maintaining peace and security during the third quarter of 2025.
