Adesuwa Ogiozee Details FBI Ordeal: False Accusations and Financial Ruin
Renowned auto dealer Adesuwa Renee Ogiozee has opened up about her harrowing three-year legal battle with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), describing it as a "nightmare" that inflicted severe personal and professional harm. In a recent statement, Ogiozee expressed deep frustration over the "new norm" of blackmail and misinformation plaguing her business in the aftermath of an FBI investigation that ultimately ended in dismissal.
The Fallout from the FBI Case
Ogiozee explained that the fallout from the case has transformed simple delays—often caused by factors beyond her control—into harmful allegations of fraud, bullying, and harassment from disgruntled customers and their paid blackmailers. She described the situation as unbearable, noting that even the slightest delays now trigger negative reactions from customers, leading to significant emotional and mental stress for her and creating a toxic work environment.
"How can you say someone bought a car from us with proceeds from alleged fraud, without our consent or awareness, yet leave the suspect alone and bring hell to the car dealer?" Ogiozee wondered. "The suspect should have been the number one target, not a random dealer with zero involvement in the crime."
Taking Matters into Her Own Hands
Frustrated by the lack of progress while confined to her home on detention for three years, Adesuwa Ogiozee took on the role of investigator. She invested a significant amount of money to launch her own investigation, which yielded results in less than a month—remarkably faster than the FBI's efforts on the same case, which had persisted for over three years without any resolution in sight.
By collaborating with the Zone 2 Lagos Police Department and other local authorities, she successfully facilitated the arrest of the actual suspect. "I took the role of the police while in home detention," Ogiozee explained. "The suspect was arrested and evidence was made available for the FBI to finally resolve the case instead of blindly going after the wrong people."
Catastrophic Reputation Damage and Ongoing Struggles
Adesuwa Ogiozee revealed that, despite the suspect issuing both private and public apologies, the damage to her reputation has been catastrophic. Although the case against her was eventually dismissed with prejudice, she shared that the three-year ordeal has left her in significant debt and subjected her to ongoing attacks from paid bloggers and impatient customers.
Refusing to accept the "false fraud charge," Ogiozee disclosed that during the investigation, she faced immense pressure to accept a plea deal that would have forced her to lie and admit to knowledge of the suspect's fraudulent activities. She firmly rejected this pressure, stating, "Accepting what you did not do was never an option. The nature of the crime had nothing to do with the car dealer."
A Call for Justice and Understanding
Despite the mental and physical exhaustion she has experienced since 2021, she remains relentless in her pursuit of truth, believing it is the only way forward, regardless of the financial implications or the "character assassination" she continues to endure. For Ogiozee, this struggle extends beyond a legal battle.
"It is never easy to come clean from an FBI case as a Nigerian-American," she said, "but it is important for people to understand how they profile people of African descent and to also battle the elimination of the stereotype perception of name-shaming people, tagging people fraud even when they've gotten a clean bill of health." She carefully narrated her ordeal, hoping that the public court would not hurriedly crucify innocent people in the future.
