A devastating fire at a Chinese takeaway in Grimoldby, near Louth, has resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals, including an 11-year-old girl, with a woman left in serious condition. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 18, at The Golden Phoenix takeaway, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to police reports, the fire broke out around 6 a.m., claiming the life of the young girl and a 45-year-old man. A woman in her 30s remains hospitalized in a serious condition, while five other individuals were treated for injuries. Among those injured, two men in their 40s and two children under the age of ten have since been released from medical care.
Investigation Confirms Air Fryer as Cause
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue conducted a thorough investigation into the blaze, determining that it was accidental and originated from an air fryer igniting nearby objects. Chief Fire Officer Mark Baxter stated, "Upon arrival at the scene, crews were met with a well-developed fire, which has tragically claimed the lives of two people, left another in a critical condition, and injured several others." The findings will be compiled into a report for the Lincolnshire Coroner, Paul Smith.
Emergency Response and Community Impact
The emergency response was extensive, involving six ambulance crews, two paramedics in fast response cars, five fire crews from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, Lincolnshire Police, and an air ambulance. An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson noted that patients were transported to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby and Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. Chief Fire Officer Baxter extended condolences, emphasizing the profound impact on the family, friends, and tight-knit community during this difficult time.
