Airport Police Arrest Teen Over Sexual Assault on Minor

The Airport Police Command has taken into custody a 17-year-old male suspect, Benjamin Daniel, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. The incident occurred on August 15 at Sabo Masalashi area, Bassa, Abuja.

Incident Reported at Abuja Airport Police Division

According to a statement from the command's spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Adeola, the case was reported by the victim's mother at the Abuja Airport Police Division. The report indicates that the suspect, who resides in Angua Mandala, allegedly lured the victim into his room under the pretext of buying some of the soya bean cake she was selling, where he sexually assaulted her.

Prompt Response and Arrest

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of the Abuja Airport Police Division immediately facilitated the victim's prompt medical attention and mobilized personnel to locate and arrest the suspect. ASP Adeola confirmed that the suspect was subsequently arrested and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

Handling of Juvenile Suspect and Victim Welfare

ASP Adeola added that the suspect's statement was obtained in the presence of his mother, in line with applicable procedures for handling juvenile suspects. The Command has also ensured that appropriate measures are being taken to safeguard the welfare and wellbeing of the victim.

The suspect will be brought before a juvenile court of competent jurisdiction upon the conclusion of the investigation, as the police continue to process the case.
