The Ekiti State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has handed over a suspect to the police for the alleged sexual assault of a young child. The incident has sparked outrage in the local community.
Suspect Confesses to Heinous Crime
A 28-year-old man named Olapade Ifeoluwa is now in police custody after being arrested by Amotekun operatives. The arrest followed a report that he raped a seven-year-old girl in the Ilawe Ekiti area, located within the Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area.
Adeleye Adewale, the Head of Communications for the Amotekun Corps, confirmed the development in a statement released from Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. According to the statement, the suspect lured the minor to his apartment under the false pretense of watching a movie.
"Upon interrogation by the arresting officers of the Ekiti Southwest Local Government Command, the suspect confessed to the crime committed," Adewale stated. He added that the suspect later blamed his actions on the influence of the devil after he was apprehended.
Neighbours Rescue Crying Victim
The father of the young victim provided a harrowing account of the event. He explained that his daughter's desperate cries during the assault alerted neighbours on Ujana Street in Ilawe Ekiti. These vigilant community members quickly intervened, rescued the girl, and reported the incident to the authorities.
Following the arrest, both the suspect, Olapade Ifeoluwa, and the victim were taken to the Amotekun Headquarters in Ado Ekiti for preliminary investigation. The case has now been formally transferred to the Ekiti State Police Command for further action and potential prosecution.
A Recurring Menace and a Firm Commitment
This arrest is not an isolated case for the state security outfit. It echoes a similar incident from September, where Amotekun operatives thwarted an attempted rape in Are Ekiti, Irepodun/Ifelodun LGA.
In that previous case, a 21-year-old man, Ahmed Abdulai, was intercepted by officers in a bush while attempting to assault a 13-year-old girl. He was subsequently handed over to the police's Rapid Response Squad.
The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has used this latest arrest to reiterate its unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens, especially children. The corps emphasized its continued collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that perpetrators of such grievous crimes face the full consequences of the law.
