Violence erupted at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in Mushin and Igabi Local Government Areas of Lagos and Kaduna states, forcing party members to flee for their safety. The incidents occurred before voting commenced for the APC House of Representatives primary in Mushin Constituency II on Saturday, May 16.
Chaos at Mushin Primary
Tension remains high around the venue of the primary, and it could not be ascertained if the election would proceed as scheduled. According to Daily Trust, chaos broke out following a disagreement among supporters of some aspirants. The disagreement led to a stampede, causing delegates and party faithful to immediately vacate the scene. Among the leading aspirants were Hon. Seye Oladejo and the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Oluwatoyin Fayinka, who is seeking re-election. Other aspirants are also contesting for the party's ticket.
Violence in Kaduna
In a related development, the APC primary in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state turned violent when the party chairman, Bashir Jibrin Jaji, was taken away by angry youths expressing dissatisfaction with the House of Representatives primary election. The incident occurred after the APC leadership and some officials were accused of manipulating the primary in the Igabi Federal Constituency.
The situation remains tense as party members and delegates await further directives from the party leadership. The APC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incidents.
