The incident occurred on Saturday, April 4, at approximately 2:00 PM, when a stray bullet fired by suspected members of a vigilante group struck and killed the teenage girl inside her family home. The location was the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) quarters, specifically at the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua Teachers Staff Quarters. According to reports, the vigilantes, who were part of an escorts team attached to the Chairman of a Local Government Area, engaged in sporadic firing into the air during a wedding celebration. This reckless act led to the untimely death of the young girl, highlighting the dangers of such irresponsible firearm use.
Swift Military Response and Arrests
In response to the tragedy, troops of Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), acted swiftly to trace and apprehend the suspects. The arrests were made in the Ngomari general area. The five individuals taken into custody have been identified as Muhammad Husaini (28), Abba Jiddu (25), Abba Kolo Mohammed (20), Ali Adam (20), and Nura Mohammed (18). Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of OPHK, confirmed these details in a statement issued on Monday, April 6, emphasizing the military's commitment to maintaining security and upholding the law.
