Babysitter Allegedly Rapes 5-Year-Old Girl, Leaving Her with Severe Injuries

A 27-year-old illegal migrant from Guatemala sat emotionless in a Long Island court on Monday, March 23, as prosecutors detailed horrific allegations that he violently raped a 5-year-old girl he was babysitting, leaving the child bleeding and suffering from internal injuries that required emergency surgery.

Alleged Attack and Immediate Aftermath

Carlos Aguilar Reynoso, a Guatemala citizen, was babysitting the young girl on February 1, 2026, while her mother was at work. Instead of caring for the child as expected, prosecutors allege he committed a brutal sexual assault. When the mother returned home, the victim told her that "her private parts hurt." Initially thinking the child might have soiled herself, the mother took her to the bathroom to change and discovered her underwear was soaked in blood.

The child then revealed what the babysitter had done to her. She was immediately rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where doctors diagnosed internal injuries and a tear in her private regions. Due to the severity of her condition, she was transferred by ambulance to Cohen Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park, where she underwent emergency surgery.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Police arrested Reynoso just one day after the alleged attack, though not without difficulty as he resisted officers' attempts to detain him. Initially, he faced charges of endangering the welfare of a child, which under New York state bail laws is not bail-eligible. This, combined with sanctuary policies, nearly allowed him to be released back onto the streets.

However, investigators issued him a desk-appearance ticket to ensure he was processed and released, at which point federal agents apprehended him as he left the precinct. In court, Reynoso used an interpreter and remained largely motionless, speaking only once to acknowledge he understood the proceedings with a simple "yeah."

Charges and Future Court Date

Reynoso now faces a series of severe sex crime charges, including first-degree rape and predatory sexual assault against a child. If convicted, he could be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. The alleged perpetrator has been remanded without bail and is scheduled to return to court on April 27 for further proceedings.

This case has highlighted concerns over child safety and the legal complexities involving illegal migrants and state policies. The community and authorities continue to monitor the situation as justice is sought for the young victim.
