Bauchi Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Stabbing of 25-Year-Old

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 25-year-old man in Bauchi metropolis. The incident occurred on July 25, 2026, and the principal suspect, Al'amin Hamisu Gidado, is now in custody while police continue to search for an accomplice.

Details of the Incident

According to a statement released on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, by the command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the attack took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. on July 25. The report was initially filed by Muhammad Dan'azumi Tanko, a 45-year-old resident of Unguwan Kur Area, Bauchi.

The victim, identified as Zahradeen Dan'azumi Tanko, also of Unguwan Kur Area, was allegedly attacked by two suspects: Gidado and Yahaya Muazu, 20, both residents of Ali Garu Area. The suspects allegedly conspired and stabbed the victim in the back with a sharp object, inflicting severe injuries.

Response and Medical Efforts

Upon receiving the report, a police patrol team rushed to the scene and evacuated the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi. Unfortunately, a medical doctor on duty confirmed him dead on arrival. The body was subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Investigation and Prosecution

SP Habib stated that the preliminary investigation has been completed and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution. “Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” Habib added.

The principal suspect, Gidado, remains in police custody. The command has assured the public that justice will be served and urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the accomplice, Yahaya Muazu, to come forward.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing challenges of violent crime in Bauchi State. The police continue to appeal for community cooperation in maintaining public safety.
