The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old suspect in connection with a violent knife attack on a female guest at a hotel in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis. The command's spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed this in a statement released on Friday, May 8, 2026.
Distress Call and Swift Response
According to Habib, the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Haruna, was arrested following a distress call received by the Officer-in-Charge of Bayan Gari Police Out Station on May 7. A member of the management staff of Happiness Garden Hotel alerted the police that an intruder had entered one of the hotel rooms and attacked a female guest.
Police officers arrived at the scene promptly and found the 40-year-old victim with severe knife injuries on her face, chest, and hands. She was immediately evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical attention and is currently responding well to treatment.
Details of the Incident
The statement from the police command detailed the sequence of events: “Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command attached to C Division have arrested a suspect and recovered the weapon used in a case of grievous hurt following a distress call from the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi LGA.” It further stated that on May 7, 2026, at about 2100 hours, the Officer-in-Charge received a distress call from the hotel management, reporting that at around 2035 hours, an intruder had entered a room and severely injured a female guest.
Acting swiftly, the officer and his team rushed to the scene and found the victim with serious knife injuries. She was taken to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where she is now stable and responding to treatment. The suspect, Ibrahim Haruna, a 20-year-old male from Tirwun Area, Bauchi, was arrested at the scene, and the knife used in the attack was recovered as evidence.
Investigation and Prosecution
Ibrahim Haruna is currently in custody and under investigation at the division. He will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in due course for further investigation and prosecution.
