Bayelsa Estate Agent Murder: Pastor Brandy, Girlfriend, and Three Others Arraigned on Multiple Charges
George Idumange, popularly known as Pastor Brandy, the key suspect in the murder of Bayelsa State estate agent Richard Ekpebu, has been arraigned alongside four others before the State High Court. The group faces 12-count charges, including conspiracy for murder, illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and destroying evidence, among other serious offenses.
Details of the Arraignment and Charges
On Monday, March 16, 2026, the accused were brought before the court. Alongside George Idumange, the arraigned individuals include his 23-year-old girlfriend, Miss Victory Bernard, who is a personnel with the Okaka Medium Correctional Centre holding the rank of ASP equivalent. Also charged are Ekiamene Amaoniye, alias Cash Money; 34-year-old Ibo Imaremi Gold, alias Police; and 35-year-old Henry Igwe.
After the charges were read to the accused, they all pleaded not guilty to all counts. The presiding Judge, Justice Raphael Ajuwa, heard arguments from both the Prosecuting Counsel, representing the State and the Director of Public Prosecution, E.J. Peterside, and the Defence Counsel. The defence team included M Y Benabo for the 1st and 4th accused, Azi Ovana for the 2nd accused, and Wariebi Igberikubo for the 5th accused, along with Okunade.
Court Proceedings and Remand Order
Following the arguments, Justice Ajuwa granted the state's application to remand the suspects at the Okaka Medium Correctional Center pending trial. This decision was made to ensure the suspects remain in custody as the legal process moves forward.
Notably, the sister of the key suspect, identified as Queen Felix, who is listed as the 6th accused, was not present in court. The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), headed by Peretimi Judith Peterside, informed the court that Queen Felix had been initially granted administrative bail from her sick bed due to severe illness. The DPP clarified that she is not charged with murder but with forgery and can be charged separately in the future.
Background of the Case and Investigation
The case stems from the brutal murder of Richard Ekpebu, a well-known estate agent in Bayelsa State. He was killed in cold blood over a land sales deal, with his body dumped in a bush along the New Otuoke Road near Bayelsa Palm on July 24, 2025. The police tactical team of Operation Puff Adder, led by CSP Chris Nwaogbo, conducted a thorough investigation across Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Yenagoa, leading to the arrest of five suspects in connection with the killing.
Adjournment and Future Court Sessions
Justice Ajuwa adjourned the case to April 14, 15, and 16, 2026, after receiving assurances from the State Prosecuting team. They confirmed they have a total of 20 witnesses ready to present in court, with plans to call them in batches of three per session to ensure a thorough and efficient trial process.
Key Points:
- The accused face charges including conspiracy for murder, illegal possession of firearms, and armed robbery.
