The Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into the murder of a Bolt driver in Calabar, who was stabbed to death in the early hours of Friday after allegedly resisting an attempt by three unidentified men to steal his Toyota Corolla.
Incident Details
The incident occurred at approximately 5:30am along Target Road in Calabar South Local Government Area. According to an eyewitness, the driver had picked up the three suspects along Mbukpa Road in Calabar South and was heading towards Calabar Municipality when the suspects allegedly ordered him to stop and hand over his car key. When he refused, the assailants stabbed him.
Despite his injuries, the driver managed to drive into a nearby fuel station with blood all over his body. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Emergency Response and Confirmation of Death
Passersby rushed the driver to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The attack has raised concerns about the safety of ride-hailing drivers operating in the state, particularly during early morning hours.
Police Investigation Launched
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the command had launched an investigation and will apprehend the fleeing suspects. He assured the public that the police are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Cross River State Police Command has urged anyone with information about the suspects to come forward, as the investigation continues.
