The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Kosofe Local Council has issued a strong warning against any attempts to incite violence or create insecurity following the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election in Kosofe Federal Constituency.
In a statement released on Sunday, the coalition, represented by Comrade Alex Omotehinse, called on all parties to address any grievances arising from the primary election through established party mechanisms or through competent courts of law. The coalition emphasized that no political actor should resort to self-help or inflammatory actions that could disrupt public peace.
Omotehinse noted that the integrity of the democratic process must be preserved through lawful, transparent, and peaceful channels. He also urged security agencies to prevent any acts that could ignite crises in the constituency.
According to the coalition, Mayor Dele Oshinowo was declared the duly elected candidate by the designated returning officer. However, the camp of incumbent House of Representatives member Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara has contradicted this, claiming the election did not hold. The coalition described this inconsistency as troubling and capable of generating confusion and tension.
“As a human rights-driven body, we consider it imperative to caution against actions that may overheat the polity or threaten the peace of Kosofe and Lagos State,” Omotehinse said.
The coalition called on all aspirants, supporters, and stakeholders to exercise restraint, demonstrate political maturity, and prioritize the collective interest of Kosofe over individual ambitions. It vowed to monitor developments and speak out to ensure peace and good governance prevail.
