Court remands man for stealing shoes from Kano mosque

A Kano Magistrate's Court has ordered the remand of Muhammad Najib Rimin Kebe in a correctional facility over the alleged theft of shoes at a mosque located within the premises of the Norman's Land Court in Kano.

Charges and Court Proceedings

The police brought the defendant before the court, presided over by Magistrate Dayyabu Jamilu Hamza, on charges related to trespass and stealing shoes at the mosque. The court instructed Adam Salisu Tarauni to read the charges to the defendant.

After the charges were read, the court directed that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility and postponed further hearing in the case until August 28, 2026.

Allegations of Repeated Shoe Theft

Earlier, the defendant was accused of repeatedly visiting the mosque within the court premises and stealing shoes belonging to worshippers. Some complainants, including court workers, police officers, correctional service personnel, and other members of the public, reportedly said they had been experiencing repeated cases of shoe theft at the mosque.

The case is set for the next hearing in August 2026, where the defendant will appear again before the court.
