Onitsha High Court Remands Two Suspects Over Murder of Local Trader
An Onitsha High Court in Anambra State has ordered the remand of two individuals in connection with the brutal murder of Ikechukwu Nwite, a prominent medicine dealer in the area. Ikechukwu Nwite, a respected trader in Onitsha, died in February under tragic circumstances. According to police reports, his apprentice, Chiemerie Anieke, aged 21, allegedly clubbed him to death with a pestle following a heated altercation. The police swiftly arrested Anieke and recovered a portion of the stolen money from the deceased.
Anieke was arraigned on two counts: murder and theft. He was joined in the charges by Godwin Nwokporo, also 21, who allegedly aided the crime by providing a bank account used to fraudulently transfer over N8 million belonging to the deceased. The police investigation revealed that the prime suspect used a pestle to strike Nwite on the head, resulting in his untimely death.

Further investigations linked the suspect to an attack on Ogechukwu Nwite in Fegge, Onitsha, adding complexity to the case. Operatives managed to recover N6 million of the stolen funds from the suspects, which will be tendered as exhibits in the ongoing court proceedings.
