DELSUTH Doctors Declare Indefinite Strike

The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), DELSUTH chapter, has declared a total and indefinite strike. The decision was announced on Thursday, June 18, 2026, following a breakdown in negotiations with the hospital management and the Ministry of Health.

In a statement jointly signed by the Vice Chairman, Dr. Enemuwe Ibobo Mike, and the Secretary, Dr. Nwajei Ifeanyichukwu Anita, the association cited the Ministry's failure to honor agreements reached earlier. The demands, outlined in a communique issued on June 2, 2026, have not been met, prompting the industrial action.

The body also alleged victimization of its chairman, Dr. Abolodje Efe, who reportedly received a dismissal letter. “This morning, a dismissal letter was issued to the association’s Chairman. This action contravenes the resolutions of the last Emergency General Meeting (EGM) and the terms of our agreement. The Congress considers this action as nothing but vilification and victimization of the Chairman and the entire Association,” the statement read.

As a result of the strike, all clinical activities, residency training, lectures for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and other related academic and clinical activities have been suspended indefinitely.

MDCAN urged the DELSUTH Management and the Ministry of Health to withdraw the dismissal letter and take immediate steps to address deteriorating conditions at the institution, including recent power and water outages over the past 48 hours. They also demanded the appointment of a substantive Chief Medical Director (CMD) and a functioning Board, as well as the immediate implementation of Revised Professional Allowances approved by the NSIWC since July 2024.

The association emphasized that these demands are essential for a peaceful resolution and stressed that they would not be bullied or intimidated.
