The Delta State Police Command has apprehended 11 suspected cultists and seized firearms, ammunition, and dangerous weapons in separate intelligence-led operations conducted across the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed that tactical teams carried out the operations as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety in communities throughout Delta State.
Edafe disclosed that operatives of the Buffalo Patrol Team, acting on a distress call on May 14, 2026, at approximately 11:09 a.m., raided a hideout of suspected cultists at Eagle Square along Okpanam Road in Asaba. According to him, the location was being used for cult-related activities and gatherings by suspected criminal elements operating within the area.
During the raid, seven male suspects and two female suspects were arrested. The police recovered a Beretta pistol, a battle axe, and a cutlass from the scene, which are believed to have been used for violent operations and intimidation.
Edafe stated that the suspects and the recovered items have been transferred to the Command Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In a separate operation conducted earlier the same day at about 9:00 a.m., operatives attached to the Safer Highway Patrol Team intercepted a Lexus Jeep with registration number KWL 139 CY during a stop-and-search operation along the Ughelli–Patani Road. The driver, identified as Felix Ike, was arrested after a thorough search of the vehicle led to the alleged recovery of a pump-action gun and 40 rounds of live cartridges concealed inside the vehicle.
The suspect was taken into custody while investigations continue to determine the source of the firearm and the intended use of the ammunition.
The command reiterated its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against cult groups, armed criminals, and other violent offenders threatening peace and security in the state. Edafe urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
