The Delta State Police Command has announced another breakthrough in its ongoing fight against violent crime and illicit drug trafficking, with the arrest of suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a large quantity of substances believed to be prohibited drugs across the state.
Operations Along Ozoro-Oleh Expressway
In a statement released yesterday, the command's spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, detailed the operations as part of sustained efforts to rid Delta State of criminal elements and ensure public safety. According to Edafe, operatives from the Command's Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS) were conducting stop-and-search duties along the Ozoro-Oleh Expressway when they intercepted a Toyota Sienna with registration number FST 242 YK at approximately 4:00 a.m. on June 14, 2026.
While officers were performing routine checks and questioning the driver, the suspect suddenly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush. Upon searching the vehicle, a substantial quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs was discovered, including codeine, tramadol, swinol, Man G, and Vega. Edafe confirmed that the exhibits have been taken into police custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Separate Operation in Ughelli
In a separate operation, CAVS operatives in Ughelli, working alongside members of the Ughelli Vigilante Group, arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to be linked to a series of robbery attacks in the town and surrounding communities. The arrests followed credible intelligence received on June 14, which was swiftly acted upon. Operatives stormed the Okorodafe area of Ughelli at about 4:30 p.m. and apprehended a 29-year-old suspect identified as Moses Francis.
Edafe added that the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in several robbery operations, including an incident along Aro Street in Ughelli in April 2026. Francis then led police operatives to a hideout within the town, where another suspected gang member, Cosmos Erueseke, aged 26, was arrested at approximately 5:40 p.m. the same day. Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Intensified Crackdown
The command also disclosed that efforts have been intensified to track down other members of the robbery syndicate and recover firearms and other items allegedly used in their criminal activities. These latest operations underscore the command's intensified crackdown on criminal networks, drug trafficking, and other unlawful activities across Delta State. Security agencies continue to strengthen intelligence-led policing and community collaboration to enhance public safety.
