The Delta State Police Command exhumed the body of Favour Agbro, a 20-year-old nursing student, on Tuesday, July 28, to conduct a post-mortem examination as part of an ongoing investigation into her death. Agbro died by suicide after alleging she was raped by content creator Odogwu Asaba, who remains in police custody.
Autopsy Conducted with All Parties Present
Human rights activist Israel Joe disclosed the development on Tuesday evening, confirming that the forensic examination was carried out by an investigative team alongside qualified pathologists at the burial site. Representatives for both the deceased's family and the suspect were present during the procedure, ensuring transparency in the process.
According to Joe, the exhumation and autopsy were conducted in Agbaro, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. He noted that he and a colleague had visited the burial site earlier in the day to monitor preparations for the autopsy, meeting with the father and extended family who had prepared everything for the exhumation.
Twin Sister Places Food in Grave Citing Dream
During the procedure, the deceased's twin sister, Faith, made a poignant request to place a loaf of bread and a tin of sardines inside the grave. She stated that her late sister had appeared in her dreams complaining of hunger. The family and officials granted the request amidst tears, before the body was prepared for reburial immediately after the pathologist's analysis.
Joe described the emotional scene, writing: "Her twin sister had brought sardine and bread for late Favour, arguing that she appears to her, saying that she is hungry. She said she wanted to put the food in the grave as she would be laid to rest immediately after the autopsy analysis by the pathologist in the presence of all parties. It was graciously granted amid wailings, agony, sorrow and tears."
Justice Campaign Continues
The development is part of a broader campaign for justice for Favour Agbro, with the hashtag #Justice4Favour gaining traction on social media. Joe expressed gratitude for public support and assured that the investigation would be followed up until justice is "manifestly seen to have been done."
Odogwu Asaba, the content creator accused of raping Agbro, remains in police custody as the investigation continues. The autopsy results are expected to play a crucial role in the case, potentially providing evidence to support or refute the allegations of sexual assault that preceded the student's tragic suicide.
