The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned five Nigerians before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges related to an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu. The defendants are accused of concealing the whereabouts of former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, who is alleged to have masterminded the plot.
Defendants and Charges
The five defendants—Reuben Ayuba, Musa Mohammed, Friday Paul, Paganengigha Anagaha, and Ayebaifife Suobite—face charges of conspiracy and concealing the whereabouts of a fugitive. They were brought before Justice Peter Lifu and pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Bail Conditions
Justice Lifu granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties in like sum. However, he ordered their remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre until they meet the bail conditions. The court adjourned the case to July 22, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
The DSS has not released further details about the alleged coup plot or Sylva's role. Sylva, a former governor and prominent politician, has not been arrested or charged in connection with the case.
