The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Salifu Olije Mustapha before Justice A.I. Akobi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kubwa, Abuja, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. The defendant faces charges of impersonating an EFCC officer and misrepresentation.
Mustapha was brought before the court on a four-count charge, including impersonation and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public. According to Count two of the charge, the defendant, in March 2026, falsely pretended to be a Nigerian Air Force officer and abetted two accomplices—Abubakar (still at large) and Haruna Mamuda (under investigation by another agency)—by transporting them in a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU399GT. The accomplices were dressed in EFCC operational uniforms and taken to Sheriff Plaza in Wuse II, Abuja, to defraud the public. This act constitutes an offense under Section 84(c) and is punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Act.
Count three alleges that Mustapha impersonated a public servant by falsely presenting himself as a Nigerian Air Force officer and used that assumed character to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Act.
When the charges were read to him, the defendant pleaded guilty to all four counts. In response, prosecution counsel R.U. Adaga urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly. Justice Akobi adjourned the matter to June 1, 2026, for sentencing.
Mustapha was arrested by EFCC operatives following actionable intelligence linking him to the impersonation of EFCC officers. He was specifically spotted wearing a fake EFCC uniform alongside two other suspects, harassing motorists and defrauding them during the process.
