Fake FRSC Officer Apprehended for Motorcycle Theft in Kano

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano State has made a significant arrest, capturing a man accused of impersonating a corps official to steal motorcycles across various locations within the state. This development highlights ongoing concerns about criminal elements exploiting law enforcement identities.

Details of the Arrest and Suspect

According to Abdullahi Labaran, the Sector Public Relations Officer, the suspect, identified as Abdullahi Ali from Bela village in Ungoggo Local Government Area of Kano State, was apprehended by the FRSC Intelligence Unit. The arrest followed numerous complaints from the public regarding individuals posing as FRSC personnel to unlawfully seize motorcycles under the pretext of conducting patrol operations.

The statement issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, confirmed that the arrest took place on January 19, 2025, after multiple reports from different parts of Kano State. Operatives acted on credible intelligence to detain the suspect, who is a resident of Bela Village.

Criminal Activities and Evidence

Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdullahi Ali forcefully confiscated motorcycles while pretending to be an FRSC officer. Some of these motorcycles are suspected to have been stolen following the seizures. During the arrest, authorities recovered a fake driver's licence from his possession, which further substantiated the use of false identity to carry out criminal acts.

The FRSC has clarified that the suspect is not an employee of the Corps, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance in such matters.

Legal Proceedings and Public Advisory

The suspect has been handed over to the Gwale Divisional Police Station in Kano for further investigation and prosecution under the law. The FRSC urges the public to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals who may be impersonating law enforcement personnel.

Members of the public are also encouraged to verify the identity of officers before complying with any enforcement actions, as stated in the official release. The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, and it will continue to work with sister security agencies to eliminate criminal elements from the state.
