Ogun State Police Arrest Family Members for Alleged Murder Plot
Police in Ogun State have made a shocking arrest, detaining three suspects for allegedly killing a 38-year-old man, Stanley Okirie, in Akute within the Ifo Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Maureen Okirie, 35, Salia Karikari, 15, and Jubril Karikari, 12, were apprehended at approximately 11:15 AM on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
The arrest followed an anonymous tip-off regarding suspicious activities in the area, prompting detectives from the Ajuwon Division to take immediate action. One of the suspects was caught in the act of trying to bury the victim's blood-drenched corpse in a shallow grave, which led to the capture of the others.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who confirmed the incident in a statement from Abeokuta, preliminary examinations revealed a severe head injury on the victim. Further investigation indicated that Stanley Okirie was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, a weapon that has since been recovered by authorities.
Babaseyi disclosed that among the suspects are members of the deceased's own family, who conspired to kill him and then planned to bury his body to cover up their crime. The body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe for an autopsy to gather more evidence.
Police Response and Public Assurance
The Commissioner of Police for Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, strongly condemned the act, describing it as a cruel, inhumane, and deeply disturbing incident, especially given the involvement of close family members. Ojajuni emphasized that such acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He assured the public that the Command is fully committed to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation, with all culpable individuals facing the full weight of the law. The suspects are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Call for Public Cooperation
CP Ojajuni also called on residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report any suspicious activities. He encouraged cooperation with the Police in the collective effort to rid society of criminal elements. The public can report incidents through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines, including the Gateway Shield toll-free number: 0800 000 9111, as well as other contact numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
