According to community sources, tensions erupted during the match on Saturday, June 13, 2026, after a disagreement broke out among players from the two teams. The misunderstanding escalated into a confrontation on the field, though no spectators or match officials were reported to have participated in the clash.

The situation worsened after the game. Some members of the visiting Opuama team, while returning from the match, encountered Ogbianawei along the route between Eniwari and Fonibiri communities. They attacked him after identifying him as an indigene of Eniwari.
