In a shocking case of familial abuse, the Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, a father, in the Ijebu-Ode area for allegedly sexually abusing and impregnating his daughter five times. The abuse reportedly began in 2019, with the suspect procuring illegal abortions for each pregnancy, highlighting a prolonged and distressing ordeal for the victim.
Survivor's Harrowing Account Leads to Police Action
The 21-year-old survivor, whose identity has been withheld for protection, courageously reported her father to the Ifo Division of the Ogun State Police Command. According to her statement, she lost her mother as an infant and was placed in a motherless home in Ikeja, Lagos State, by her father. In 2019, he took her to Ijebu-Ode under the guise of guardianship, where the alleged abuse commenced and persisted over several years.
The survivor detailed that her father sexually abused her repeatedly, resulting in five pregnancies. Each time, he reportedly facilitated illegal abortions, compounding the trauma of the abuse. The situation escalated to the point where she escaped from his residence on Sunday, February 1, 2026, due to excessive harassment, seeking refuge at a church in Pakoto Mountain.
Police Confirm Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ogun State, confirmed the arrest and provided further details. He stated that on March 26, 2026, the survivor formally reported the sexual abuse by her biological father at the Ifo Division. "During this period, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured an abortion for each pregnancy," Babaseyi emphasized.
He credited the swift response to the leadership of Ifo Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Kamorudeen, noting that operatives acted immediately on a tip-off and successfully arrested the suspect. "Thanks to the decisive actions, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi is now in custody," Babaseyi added. The case has been forwarded to the Gender Desk for comprehensive investigation and prosecution, with preliminary inquiries continuing to ensure justice is served.
This case underscores the critical need for vigilance and support systems to protect vulnerable individuals from such heinous crimes. The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to thoroughly investigating and prosecuting the matter to deter similar incidents in the future.
