A commercial driver and mechanic from Ikot Ekop, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Okon Jimmy Ama, has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for raping his two biological daughters. The 51-year-old Ama was convicted by the Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo, presided over by Hon. Justice Winifred Effiong, on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Details of the Crime and Court Proceedings
The incident dates back to 2015, when Ama repeatedly molested his daughters, who were aged 13 and 16 at the time, by having carnal knowledge of them on multiple occasions. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that he also used a car fan belt to beat one of his daughters and later disposed of it in a pit toilet, highlighting the brutality of the assaults.
Justice Effiong convicted Ama on all counts brought against him. He received sentences of 7 years’ imprisonment on counts 1 and 2 for Incest by Male, 3 years for Assault Occasioning Harm, and 14 years for Rape. The court ordered that these sentences run concurrently, meaning Ama will serve a maximum of 14 years in prison.
