Ogun Police Arrest Father and Son for Illegal Firearm Possession on Shagamu Road
Operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) in Ogun State have made a significant arrest, apprehending two suspects—a father and his teenage son—for unlawful possession of a firearm. The arrest occurred along the Shagamu/Ogijo Road axis, highlighting ongoing police efforts to combat crime in the region.
Details of the Arrest and Recovery
According to DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command’s spokesman, the suspects were identified as Joseph Kehinde, aged 38, and his son John Joseph, aged 13. The incident took place on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at approximately 1100 hours. Police operatives, while conducting stop-and-search duties in the Lafarge area along Shagamu/Ogijo Road, intercepted a tricycle carrying the younger suspect.
A thorough search led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and a mask. The teenage suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the ownership of these items. However, he claimed that the firearm belonged to his father, Joseph Kehinde.
Following this disclosure, police operatives intensified their efforts, resulting in the arrest of the father. Both suspects, along with the recovered exhibits, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. DSP Babaseyi confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case, and the suspects will be charged to court upon its conclusion.
