A female prison warden has been charged with raping an inmate inside a men's jail in Memphis, Tennessee. Johnesha Rucker, 28, was arrested at her home on Monday by a Tennessee fugitive apprehension team in connection with the alleged sexual assault that was first reported in February, according to WMC.
Allegations and Investigation
Police received a tip-off on February 9 regarding the alleged rape of an inmate at the men's jail located at 201 Poplar in downtown Memphis. Following an investigation, Rucker was indicted on charges of rape, misconduct, and forgery.
Resignation and Legal Consequences
Rucker resigned from her position as a corrections deputy, a role she had held since November 2023, before being formally charged. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
Official Response
Shelby County Sheriff Floyd Bonner Jr. stated that his office “will not tolerate the misconduct of any employee and will continue to hold our employees accountable to the highest ethical standards to ensure our public’s trust.”
Rucker is currently being held in the city's female prison on a $100,000 bond.
