Brutal Murder Shocks Nigerian Community in Cyprus

Cyprus police have made significant breakthroughs in the shocking murder case of Victory Osarumen Thompson, a 30-year-old Nigerian woman whose life was tragically cut short in Limassol. Authorities confirmed the arrest of five suspects, including three women and a couple, all believed to be Nigerian nationals.

The grim discovery occurred on Sunday, November 9, 2025, when emergency services responded to a call from Thompson's Germasogeia flat. Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou revealed that the ambulance service alerted police around 10:30 a.m. after finding the woman deceased.

Violent Attack and Crime Scene Evidence

Investigators presenting evidence at the Limassol District Court described a horrifying scene. The victim had suffered injuries consistent with being brutally beaten with a broomstick. Forensic experts confirmed multiple signs of physical abuse, immediately prompting authorities to treat the case as a homicide.

According to police reports, neighbors reported hearing loud arguments in the hours before Thompson's death. These witness statements aligned perfectly with what forensic experts discovered at the crime scene, strengthening suspicions that the killing was premeditated.

During the on-site autopsy, investigators documented extensive evidence of violence. A large number of items were collected for forensic examination, including the broken broomstick allegedly used in the attack.

Suspects and Their Court Appearances

The investigation moved quickly with three female suspects appearing in court on Monday, November 10. The court ordered their detention for eight days on suspicion of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Two additional suspects, a Nigerian couple aged 30 and 31, were arrested on Tuesday, November 11. Police confirmed the couple was present during the incident, used force against the victim, and allegedly fled the scene taking Thompson's mobile phone.

The newly arrested pair were detained separately—the man in Nicosia and the woman in Limassol. They were scheduled to appear before the Limassol District Court for a remand hearing later that day.

Suspects' Statements and Ongoing Investigation

According to police sources, the suspects provided statements claiming the victim was in an "out of control" state, potentially due to drug use, when they returned to the flat around 05:00. They alleged that Thompson started attacking them, and they used force to restrain her, resulting in her fatal injury.

However, one of the female suspects admitted in a written statement to police that she took a broomstick and hit the victim, even after Thompson had fallen to the ground.

Police confirmed that all suspects are asylum seekers in Cyprus, with one application already rejected and the others still pending. The Criminal Investigation Department continues to take statements as part of the ongoing investigation, analyzing evidence collected from the scene to determine the exact motive and circumstances surrounding Thompson's death.
