Six Federal University Lokoja Students Arrested Over False Homosexual Claims and Assault
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six students from the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) on serious charges including cyberstalking, assault, and defamation of character. The arrests followed a formal complaint lodged by a male student who was subjected to a brutal and humiliating attack based on false allegations regarding his sexual orientation.
Details of the Incident and Police Statement
According to a statement released on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, by the command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, the case was reported at the 'B' Division in Lokoja on March 30, 2026. The complainant, identified as Oladosu Sunday, a student of the institution, alleged criminal conspiracy, use of criminal force, defamation, assault, and cyberstalking. The matter was promptly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive and discreet investigation.
The police spokesperson named the suspects as Inajo Henry, Nzekwe Victor, Lucky Victor, Lucky Gambo, Paul David, and an additional 17-year-old male student from the university. Preliminary investigations revealed a disturbing sequence of events orchestrated by the group.
Premeditated Assault and Viral Video Circulation
On the evening of March 29, 2026, around 21:00 hours, the suspects lured Oladosu Sunday to an apartment located near the Living Faith Church area in Felele, Lokoja. Without any credible evidence, they had falsely accused him of being homosexual based solely on unverified assumptions about his behavior.
Once at the location, the victim was confined to a room, forcibly stripped naked, and subjected to an inhumane assault. The attackers used belts and charging cords to inflict pain while recording the entire act on video. This recorded footage was subsequently circulated online, where it quickly went viral among members of the university community, causing significant distress and reputational harm to the victim.
During police interrogation, the suspects admitted that their actions were premeditated and driven by baseless suspicions. ASP Afusat emphasized that the investigation has been concluded, and all six suspects have been arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction to face the full weight of the law.
Broader Implications and Legal Proceedings
This case highlights severe issues of cyberbullying, physical violence, and the dangers of spreading false accusations within academic environments. The Kogi State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to tackling such crimes and ensuring justice for victims. The swift action taken in this instance underscores the seriousness with which authorities are addressing offenses related to cyberstalking and assault, particularly when they involve vulnerable individuals in educational settings.
The arraignment of the suspects marks a critical step in the legal process, with the court now tasked with determining appropriate penalties for the alleged crimes. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of vigilantism and the importance of verifying information before taking harmful actions against others.
