Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 57, and his husband Scott Drewitt-Barlow, 32, have been charged with multiple serious offences following a police raid on their mansion in Danbury, Essex. The couple, once celebrated as among the UK's first gay fathers, now face allegations of rape, sexual assault, and modern slavery trafficking for sexual exploitation.
Police Operation
Detectives from the Serious Crime Directorate at Essex Police executed coordinated search warrants on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at properties in Danbury, Maldon, and Braintree. The investigation focuses on human trafficking for sexual exploitation and other sexual offences.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, a millionaire and owner of non-league football club Maldon and Tiptree FC, was arrested alongside his younger husband. Both men reside at Southwood Chase in Danbury, which was one of the locations searched by officers.
Charges Filed
Essex Police confirmed that both men have been charged with multiple offences, including rape, sexual assault, and modern slavery trafficking for sexual exploitation. The charges follow a thorough investigation and liaison with the Crown Prosecution Service.
Detective Inspector Lydia George, leading the investigation, urged anyone with information to come forward via the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP). She stated: “If anyone has any information they feel ready to share with us, I would ask them to contact us via the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) and the investigation team will provide you with any specialist support required.”
Court Appearance
Both men are scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 8, 2026. The case has drawn significant media attention due to the couple's high-profile status as reality TV stars and advocates for gay parenting.
This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of same-sex adoption cases, following a separate incident where a gay teacher and his partner were arrested for sexually abusing a baby boy they were adopting, which tragically resulted in the child's death.
