A shocking incident of violence has occurred at the Gombe State Government House, where a casual worker was allegedly killed by a colleague. The police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who has reportedly confessed to the crime.

Disturbing Discovery at Government House

On Friday, December 26, 2025, at about 3:50 PM, the Gombe State Police Command received a distress call. The report concerned a male adult found lying motionless within the Government House premises. The victim was identified as Malam Umar, popularly known as Baba Usama, a casual staff member employed as a borehole operator.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, preliminary findings revealed a grim scene. The victim was discovered with his trousers tied around his neck. Furthermore, a local intoxicant, commonly referred to as rubber solution, was found inserted in his mouth.

The body was swiftly taken to the Specialist Hospital in Gombe, where a medical doctor certified him dead. His remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death.

CCTV Footage Identifies Suspect

Investigations took a decisive turn with the review of CCTV footage from the Government House premises. The footage clearly showed the assault that led to the victim's death. The person seen attacking Malam Umar was identified as 19-year-old Shuaibu Adamu, also known as Yaya Mama of Mallam Kuri Quarters.

The police disclosed that the CCTV recording also showed the suspect, Shuaibu Adamu, fleeing the scene immediately after committing the act. This visual evidence became crucial in tracking down the perpetrator.

Arrest and Confession

In a coordinated follow-up operation, police officers tracked the suspect to his hideout. Shuaibu Adamu was arrested at about 11 PM on the same day, December 26, in Bagadaza Quarters of Gombe metropolis.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. DSP Abdullahi confirmed this development, stating that Adamu admitted his involvement in the homicide.

Ongoing Investigation and Commissioner's Directive

The Gombe State Police Command has stated that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. The aim is to unravel the full circumstances and motive behind the killing.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, visited the crime scene and has ordered a thorough and comprehensive investigation. The directive is to ensure that all facts are established for diligent prosecution of the case.

This tragic event has cast a shadow over the Gombe State Government House, highlighting an extreme case of workplace violence. The police continue their probe to provide justice for the deceased casual worker, Malam Umar.
