In a brazen assault that has raised serious security concerns, armed attackers targeted the convoy of former Anambra State Governor Dr. Chris Ngige on Wednesday, November 27, leaving one person dead and several others with severe injuries.
Attack Details and Casualties
The violent incident occurred along the Nkpor–Nnobi Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants, who were disguised in police and military uniforms, opened fire on the pilot vehicle of the former governor's convoy.
A woman who was recording the attack on her mobile phone was shot dead instantly at the scene. Additionally, a shop owner who rushed to investigate the commotion sustained severe injuries from stray bullets and was scheduled for emergency surgery to remove bullet fragments from his body.
Security Personnel Targeted
The convoy's security team suffered significant casualties during the attack. The esc0rt leader sustained gunshot wounds and underwent surgery immediately following the incident, though medical reports indicate he is expected to make a full recovery.
In a particularly disturbing development, sources revealed that the attackers killed a policeman during the assault and made off with his rifle and uniform. The pilot car in the convoy was riddled with bullet holes, indicating the intensity of the attack.
