Gunmen kill retired Army officer, abduct woman in Nasarawa

Suspected gunmen have abducted a woman and killed a retired Army officer during an attack on a residential community bordering the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Nasarawa State. Police sources said the incident occurred at about 12:45 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Plot 038, PGC Community, bordering Jikwoyi in the FCT.

Details of the Attack

The attackers reportedly invaded the residence of Silas Orite, 46, and abducted his wife, Bukola Oluwatoyin Silas, 40, taking her to an unknown destination. According to the sources, the Community Chief Security Officer (CSO), Master Warrant Officer Reuben Yelwa, 61, a retired Nigerian Army personnel, responded in an attempt to assist during the attack but was shot dead by the assailants.

Police Response and Investigation

Police visited the scene, documented evidence and commenced investigations into the incident. Security operatives have intensified efforts to rescue the abducted woman unharmed and track down those responsible for the attack, while area domination operations have been reinforced to prevent further criminal activities.
