HIV-positive man arrested for raping 4-year-old in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has made several arrests in connection with disturbing cases of sexual violence against children, including one suspect who medical tests confirmed is HIV-positive.

Multiple Child Assault Cases Uncovered

Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim revealed that detectives apprehended 20-year-old Rabilu Sani from Jadam Village in Jakusko on November 9, 2025. The suspect allegedly lured a four-year-old girl into a room and sexually assaulted her.

Medical examination conducted after the assault showed the victim suffered severe injuries. During investigation, authorities made the alarming discovery that Sani is HIV-positive, adding another layer of concern to the already grave situation.

In a similar incident on the same day, police arrested 23-year-old Yusuf Garba, a grinding machine operator from Dumbulwa Village. Garba stands accused of luring a five-year-old girl into his shop and sexually assaulting her.

Disturbing Pattern of Violence Against Minors

The police command expressed deep concern about the increasing cases of Gender-Based Violence across the state. Since September 2025, authorities have recorded 25 rape cases, with most victims being children below nine years old.

Another case involved the gang-rape of a 16-year-old girl in Babban Gida on November 6, 2025. Police arrested Audu Ado (22) and Babangida Alh. Dawaye, both from Galadimawa Village, after responding to a distress call. The suspects confessed to threatening their victim with harmful objects during the attack.

Overall, 28 suspects have been arrested in connection with these crimes. Ten cases are currently undergoing prosecution in court, while investigations continue on others at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Commissioner of Police CP Emmanuel Ado has strongly condemned these heinous acts and directed all operatives to handle gender-based violence cases with utmost professionalism and sensitivity.

The police command has issued security tips for parents and guardians, emphasizing the need for constant vigilance:

  • Know where your children are at all times and who they are with
  • Educate children about "Safe Touch - Unsafe Touch" using simple language
  • Avoid leaving young children unattended in shops, isolated places, or with unfamiliar persons
  • Report suspicious behavior immediately
  • Teach children to scream or run to a safe adult if threatened
