The Ogun State Police Command has made a shocking arrest, apprehending a 28-year-old man who allegedly impersonated a medical doctor to defraud and sexually assault a young woman.
The Deception on Social Media
Victor Cletus, who works as a cleaner at the prestigious Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan Remo, is accused of using the social media platform Snapchat to carry out his criminal scheme. According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the suspect contacted his victim online and falsely presented himself as a surgeon employed at the teaching hospital.
Trusting his fabricated medical credentials, the young woman confided in him about a sensitive health issue—a lump she had discovered in her right breast. Seizing on her vulnerability, Cletus allegedly devised a cruel plan.
The Predatory Scheme Unfolds
The fake doctor demanded an unspecified amount of money from the victim, claiming it was a fee for a necessary surgical procedure. He then deceitfully instructed her to meet him for this supposed operation on November 18, 2025.
Instead of providing any medical assistance, the suspect sexually abused the woman and also stole money directly from her Opay mobile banking account. The following day, the victim's suspicions were raised when the imposter continued to press for sexual intimacy without having performed any medical examination or procedure.
Acting on her growing doubts, the woman independently contacted Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where she received the shocking revelation that Victor Cletus was not a doctor but a cleaner employed by the institution.
Police Response and Public Warning
Following a formal report by the victim, the Ogun State Police Command moved swiftly to arrest the suspect. CSP Odutola confirmed that Cletus is currently under investigation and will face prosecution for his actions.
The command has issued a strong warning to the public, particularly young women, to exercise extreme caution on social media platforms where criminals often create false identities to lure, manipulate, and extort innocent people.
The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has condemned what he described as a heinous act. He issued a stern warning to online predators and criminal impostors that the command will not tolerate any form of exploitation, deception, or sexual violence against females.
CP Ogunlowo urged young women to remain vigilant and cautious about trusting strangers with personal or medical information online. The police command reiterated its steadfast commitment to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting individuals who weaponize social media platforms to commit crimes.
