Police Seal Lagos Hotel Over Mysterious Death of Man at Pool Party

Police operatives have sealed the Signatious Hotel located in the Ajao Estate area of Lagos State, following the mysterious death of Mattias Airenekhueme at the facility. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, January 31, 2026, during a pool party where Mattias was reportedly selling tickets to earn money.

Arrests Made as Investigations Intensify

According to a police source who spoke anonymously on Thursday, February 12, 2026, the hotel has been sealed by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti as part of ongoing investigations. The source confirmed that the organiser of the pool party has been arrested, along with the hotel manager and two of Mattias’ friends. "The police have sealed the hotel pending an ongoing investigation into the incident. The organiser of the pool party is also currently in police custody," the source stated.

Father Raises Alarming Questions Over Son's Death

Henry Airenekhueme, the father of the deceased, has raised serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding his son's death. He narrated that one of Mattias’ friends claimed they were sitting with a lady at the party before he briefly stepped away. Upon returning, Mattias was missing, and his body was later found in the swimming pool. However, Airenekhueme pointed out unusual physical signs on his son's body, questioning the drowning narrative. "If he truly drowned, why was his stomach flat instead of swollen? And why was there foam coming out of his mouth and nose?" he asked. An autopsy is currently being conducted to determine the exact cause of death, with the family awaiting the results.
