Islamic Cleric Remanded for Defiling Teen in Ondo

The Akure Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of a 43-year-old Islamic cleric, Alabi Oloye, at the Olokuta Correctional Centre for the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl in the Ondo State capital.

Court Appearance and Charges

The defendant appeared before Magistrate Taiwo Lebi, facing charges related to forcefully having carnal knowledge of the victim. The police prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Omhenimen, informed the court that the incident occurred on May 1, 2026, at approximately 09:45 hours at Ogbe Secondary School, Oda Town, within the Akure Magisterial District.

The offence is said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 3(a) and (b) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Laws. Omhenimen prayed the court to remand the defendant in the Olokuta Correctional facility pending the outcome of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Bail Application and Prosecution

The defence counsel, Samuel Jemiluyi, prayed the court to admit his client to bail. However, the Director of Legal Services in the Ondo State Agency Against Gender-Based Violence, John Dada, asked the court to disregard the application filed by the defence counsel. Dada informed the court that the agency had taken over the case following the initial report to ensure a thorough prosecution.

Court Ruling

Presiding Magistrate Taiwo Lebi ordered the remand of the cleric at the Olokuta Correctional Facility. The remand is pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The matter was subsequently adjourned to August 4, 2026, for mention.
